With Thanksgiving right around the corner, many people are excited to consume some of their favorite turkey dishes. And what says Thanksgiving in the greater Philadelphia area than Wawa's famous Turkey Gobbler?
There's no doubt that Wawa is an important part of our local traditions. We love the seasonal items like the Turkey Gobbler; let's go behind the scenes at Wawa to learn more about its history and heritage, and how Wawa gives back to our local communities.
Wawa has been a staple of the local community for more than 50 years. The very first Wawa Food Market opened in Folsom, Pennsylvania in 1964. After expanding rapidly throughout the local Pennsylvania area, Wawa expanded outside of the state. In 1968, the first New Jersey store was opened, and in 1969, the first Delaware store was opened.
During the next few years, Wawa would roll out various food items including hamburgers, fried chicken, sandwiches, and hoagies. Wawa then began selling fresh coffee in 1975 before introducing hot foods in 1984. Wawa began offering ATMs, free of charge, in 1995. Finally, Wawa expanded to include fuel in 1996.
Throughout the years, Wawa has consistently given back to local communities through The Wawa Foundation, which provides several types of support. Their financial grants support numerous nonprofit organizations throughout the mid-Atlantic area. In particular, Wawa seeks to help NGOs that support local health and wellness, efforts to curb food insecurity, and those everyday heroes who make Philadelphia a better place to live.
This is similar to our beliefs here at One Source, where we have the drive to give back to the local community, as well. With a shared passion for serving our community, we're even prouder to partner with Wawa in foodservice.
Many people are excited the seasonal menu at Wawa is making a return. One of the most anticipated items is the Turkey Gobbler. This sandwich includes hot turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry, and stuffing, all served on a hoagie roll. Anyone who wants to enjoy all of their Thanksgiving favorites at the same time will want to give the turkey gobbler a try. With so many delicious flavors mixed into a single bite, it is easy to see why so many people have been asking for the return of the sandwich.
